About Cordy
Mushroom science, from forest to understanding.
Cordy began with a simple frustration: the gap between what mushroom marketing claims and what the scientific literature actually supports. In a wellness landscape saturated with exaggerated promises, we wanted to create something different — a calm, grounded place where curiosity meets evidence.
We are not a supplement company. We do not sell products, endorse brands, or earn affiliate commissions. Cordy is an independent educational resource focused on functional mushrooms and the broader world of medicinal fungi. Our goal is to help readers understand the biology, ecology, traditional uses, and emerging research behind species like Cordyceps, Lion's Mane, Reishi, Turkey Tail, and others — without hype.
Our Approach
We write for the evidence-curious. That means we engage seriously with peer-reviewed research, but we also acknowledge its limitations. A compound that shows promise in a petri dish is not the same as a proven therapy in humans. A tradition spanning centuries deserves respect, but it is not a substitute for modern investigation. We hold both truths simultaneously.
Every article is written to be accessible to a general audience while maintaining scientific honesty. When we discuss research, we distinguish between in vitro studies, animal models, and human clinical trials. When we discuss traditional knowledge, we name its cultural origins rather than flattening it into generic "ancient wisdom."
What We Believe
Evidence First
We follow the research wherever it leads — including to "we don't know yet." Uncertainty is part of honest science.
Safety Grounded
Foraging education centers on caution. No article will encourage you to eat something you cannot identify with certainty.
No Sales Agenda
Because we sell nothing, we have no incentive to exaggerate. Our only product is understanding.
Who We Are
Cordy is run by a small team of writers, mycology enthusiasts, and science communicators based in the Pacific Northwest. We are not medical professionals, and we do not provide medical advice. Our role is educational: to translate complex mycological and pharmacological information into language that curious people can actually use.
Our editorial process involves consulting primary research literature, referencing established mycological texts, and acknowledging the expertise of indigenous and traditional knowledge holders. Where we make errors — and we will — we welcome correction. Science is a process of revision, not proclamation.
What You'll Find Here
Our content is organized around several core areas. Fungi Profiles offer reference guides to individual species. Research Summaries break down studies in plain language. Foraging Safety articles cover identification, ethics, and risk. Traditional Uses explore the cultural history of medicinal mushrooms. And our Health Topics articles address specific areas of interest like cognitive health, sleep, and immune function.
How to Use This Site
Start with our Fungi Guide to get oriented with the major species. Then explore the article library by topic. If you're new to foraging, read our beginner's safety framework before anything else. And if you're considering mushroom supplements, our guide to reading supplement labels will help you navigate marketing language.
